Westchester Scar Treatments
Any injury or trauma to the skin can cause the formation of scar tissue. A scar develops as your body’s natural response to healing after injury. The severity of this natural formation of scar tissue depends greatly on your age, ethnicity, depth of the injury and heredity. Common types of scars are surgical scars and acne scars. Fortunately, the experts at SkinCenter offer a variety of treatment options including:
Exfoliation using Microdermabrasion/Chemical Peels
Because these treatments gently resurface the skin, they are great for superficial scars. This action removes dead and damaged cells at the skin’s surface thus forcing the regeneration of new skin cells. SkinCenter offers several skin care products that can be effectively used in conjunction with these services.
Dermal Fillers
Since fillers and volumizers temporarily “plump up” and “fill in” the skin, they are effective for correcting depressed (atrophic) scars as well as elevated (hypertrophic) scars for a smoother appearance. The dermal filler selected depends on the type of scar being treated. For atrophic scars or mild acne scarring, filling in the area with Restylane or Juvederm can be highly effective. If there is deeper tissue loss sometimes a volume filler like Sculptra or Radiesse is best.
Westchester Laser Treatments
Various laser treatments can accomplish different things. Laser therapies can reduce the angry redness that often accompanies scars resulting from trauma or surgery. Non-ablative resurfacing can significantly improve acne scarring while at the same time stimulate collagen production for a smooth, even-toned look.
Microneedling
For acne scars and surgical scarring, microneedling is a great treatment option. This highly effective, minimal downtime treatment addresses the damaged layer of skin so that as new cells regenerate themselves, the skin can flourish and fill in the crevices. The result? Firmer, smoother and more toned skin.
Surgical Scar Revision
Scar revision is a surgical procedure performed to improve the overall look of a scar from previous surgery or an injury. Many times, it is possible to excise or remove a malpositioned or raised scar. The defect is then closed in a careful fashion, minimizing the new scar that is formed. In most cases, the final result is far superior to the original scar.
