What is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty – more commonly known as the nose job – involves the rearrangement of the bones and cartilage in the nose to achieve a more pleasing aesthetic. Rhinoplasty is also sometimes performed to help people breathe more effectively. It’s a complex procedure that should only be performed by a Board certified highly qualified, experienced plastic surgeon.

The Top Reasons People Choose Rhinoplasty

Plastic surgery is an intensely personal decision. Everyone has their own reasons for choosing rhinoplasty, whether it’s to boost their confidence in their appearance, a desire to look more or less like someone they know or admire, or to achieve a specific aesthetic goal.

During your consultation, our physician will talk to you about your decision to have rhinoplasty. They will stress that it’s important that this decision is your decision – not the decision of your friends, significant others, parents, or anyone else. You’re the person who will be living with the new nose, so it’s important that you’re the one in charge of your aesthetic choices.

While your surgeon is getting to know you, you want to get to know them too. Be sure that your plastic surgeon is board certified, experienced, and known for doing good work. Do your research. Ask questions! Make sure you and your plastic surgeon have the same vision for your results.

What to Expect from Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is a complex procedure. A plastic surgeon can’t simply recreate someone else’s nose on your face. Each face is different, including the bone structure and the way the cartilage is formed. Understand that a plastic surgeon provides aesthetic guidance as well as medical care. That means that they may have to tell you that your vision of a “perfect nose” – we put that in quotes because the perfect nose doesn’t actually exist – won’t look perfect on you, due to your facial structure. Keeping the focus on your larger aesthetic goals, and what will look right on you, is a better approach that delivers more satisfying results.

Rhinoplasty requires recovery time. You’ll need to wear a nose splint for 3-8 days after your procedure and swelling and bruising are both very common. We advise patients to avoid physical activity for at least a month to allow the nose to heal properly. Even after that month has passed, some patience is still required: it can take up to a year for your final results to be visibe.
